Our PhilosophyHave you ever had the idea that what you are supposed to do with your life was to follow your curiosity? The idea is that by doing so life will be in balance and purposeful. Furthermore, following your own curiosity generally leads to contentment and does not hurt others or the planet in any way. It seems that when people follow their curious "noise," so to speak, others even benefit at times. We have discovered that this is true for us and is a heartfelt belief. We know too that when we get into trouble in life it is because we didn't follow our curious noise. To follow the goals or noise of someone else almost always leads to personal discontent or negative effects on others. We don't know if this "noise" is an inner guide to happiness or just a sense that we should follow our current interest if we want to be content in life. In an interview Bill Moyers had with Margaret Kemeny, she said that, "There's a tendency in this field to study negative emotional states rather than happy ones." Likewise, a lot of emphasis is placed on looking at stress at work or what is negative about work. Why not look at the joys of work? People have studied job satisfaction, but little is written about the enjoyment of going to work, being at work and doing work. Our curious noise has led to the Joy at Work Club, formed for the purpose of investigating and furthering the cause of enjoyment of all work. One of our first endeavors for the Joy at Work Club was designing a short-term small group experience for people who want to talk with others about the topic of enjoying work. |
